In
the year 1926 two masters of comedy met in the studio
of Hal Roach in Culver City, who did not know yet, how
close they would work together in the future. One is the
good actor, the other author, Gagwriter and director.
In the year 1926 Stan Laurel directed a film with Oliver
Hardy. By coincidence both stood in a scene before the
camera and some genious minds in the studio saw the potential
of an ingenious comedy duo there. Stan Laurel had at that
time already beside the good directors and the producer
in the studio great influence. The films with Stan and
Ollie emerged already soon as self runners, which guaranteed
full cashes to the owners of the cinemas worldwide.
With the introduction of the sound film 1928 the films
go to another dimension. Laurel and Hardy did not have
problems with the sound. They turned their short films
with large success into films with music and dialogue.

Very soon the producer used the two also in features,
from which some rank today among the classical film comedies.
From 1926 to 1950 the two made 106 films together. Both
new film plans as well as a successful stage tours ended
with a stroke of Oliver Hardy. He deceased 1957. Stan
Laurel experienced still the revivial of the films with
Stan & Ollie on the American television. His life
ended 1965.
